Mail Order Wife gets a second week...

Do we have a trend? Another CST feature is being brought back by popular demand. "Mail Order Wife will return in the 9pm slot next week; paired with Hal Hartley's new effort "The Girl From Monday" - playing at 7pm.

Haven't been down to the Clinton this week, so I'm not sure how things are going with the brewpub yet. Seems like the wheels of local government are turning slowly. Here's hoping things open up soon!

PERSONAL NOTES:

Just saw the film "Speaking In Strings" (documentary about violin virtuoso Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg), and was very impressed. Recommend it to anyone with a passion for music.

Added news documentary "Eye of the Storm" to my 16mm collection this week. Excellent 28min news report about a teacher who uses eye color as a tool to teach 3rd graders about discrimination. It's chilling how quickly these kids began to discriminate when they were encouraged. Worth checking out. I plan on adding this to my next Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

Meet the Feebles rolls...

Looks like Peter Jackson is here to stay for a second week! Response to this sick and twisted classic has been strong and steady!

Bar is looking better every day. Everything is almost ready...just waiting for the OLCC.

Movies and brews

In the tradition of PDX indie cinema, the Clinton Street Theater is adding a micro-brewery to its arsenal of entertainment options. Slated to open in late April, the brewery sits in the former digs of "For Heads Only" - and now adjoins the theater via a newly installed set of doors. According to CST owner Seth Sonstein, the goal is a new beer every week - supplemented by a selection of tasty pub food.

Now all we have to do is wait....

Blogging the Clinton

So why blog about the Clinton?

Where else, humble reader, are you going to get a window into the sordid world of independent cinema operation? Not anywhere else in Portland (as of 4/05)! Within this blog will (hopefully) be the random observations of the cast and crew at the CST. At this point, it's just me, the webmaster (Greg) doing the talking, but soon, we will have more voices.

When the film breaks, does it publish a blog? It does now...

In reality, many cool things are happening at the Clinton these days. We're opening a brewpub next door and we're always coming up with some strange tribute or variation on the moviegoing experience. So...there's that that, if you really need a reason for this blog's existence.

Incidentally, if you're wondering about the ranting movie reviews and oddities at the genesis of this thing - they are the fruits of an earlier blog effort at film criticism. I've abandoned that for this most recent endeavor.

Selah.
